There is e there are: como dizer "tem" em inglês

Para dizer que algo existe ("tem", "há"), o inglês usa there is (singular) e there are (plural), e não o verbo have.

Presente

There is a supermarket near here.Tem um mercado aqui perto.
There are three bedrooms in the house.Tem três quartos na casa.
Is there a bank nearby?Tem um banco aqui perto?
There aren't any chairs.Não tem cadeiras.

Passado e futuro

There was a problem.Houve um problema.
There were many people at the party.Tinha muita gente na festa.
There will be a meeting tomorrow.Vai ter uma reunião amanhã.

Na fala, there is vira there's. Com plural, muita gente fala "there's" no dia a dia, mas na escrita use there are.
